Children
Our Most
Valuable and Neglected Asset
Why is our planet inhabited by men and women? The obvious
answer is to multiply and inhabit the earth which can ONLY mean to
produce children and nurture them to become responsible adults. Yet,
a serious study of events in recent years reveals conclusively the
accuracy of the title of this article.
While probably impossible to accurately date the beginning of the
decline of the family unit, many would agree that the pace has
accelerated dramatically during the last 25 years. Just what
forces have been active during this period?
- The US government has spent TRILLIONS of dollars to alleviate
poverty, presumably to benefit children.
- Our government formed the U. S. Dept. of Education.
- Federal laws have been passed making parents punishable for
disciplining children and even limiting real legal penalties for
juvenile misconduct.
- Governmental programs have done little but to provide EXCUSES
for children who misbehave, resulting in 'slaps on the wrists'
for serious misbehavior.
- Government programs have contributed significantly to the
breakup of the family unit, leaving children with one or even no
biological parent to care for them.
- Far too few foster care facilities are effective in
rehabilitating children.
- A significant number of citizen-supported organizations
(secular and Christian) have been established supposedly to
protect the interests of children and families. Who are
they?
- American Family Association
- Campaign for Working Families
- Christian Coalition
- Christian Voice
- Family Research Council
- Focus on the Family
- No fault divorce laws have enabled families to dissolve with
no consideration whatever given to the effect on children
involved
What 'benefits' have these and other efforts wrought?
- The percentage of children living in poverty has changed
little.
- Children are falling farther and farther behind in reading,
math, science and language skills, ALL ESSENTIAL for a child to
become successful in the adult world. In years past,
schools were helpful in disciplining children as well as
teaching them 'right' from 'wrong'. While some teachers
have been successful in maintaining discipline in the classroom,
far too many have not had the support of their administrations
and classrooms have become chaotic. Teaching 'values' is
taboo which, in effect, teaches that there are no standards of
decency or conduct. Active boys have been drugged without
parental permission to make them more 'manageable'.
Schools have often terminated boys' sports only because there
weren't similar programs for girls. Many schools are
demeaning the normal aggressive nature of boys and attempting to
feminize them. Some teachers in public schools support
engaging in premarital sex as well as homosexual conduct.
What government schools are doing to our children today is
nothing short of INCOMPREHENSIBLE. There are those who
believe that adolescent boys causing the recent violence in
schools are victims of one or more of these policies.
- Federal laws have made parents subject to criminal prosecution
for exercising parental rights so essential for the proper
rearing of children. Some school teachers teach children
how they can have parents punished for exercising normal
parental controls.
- Current laws often prevent the proper punishment of children
for even violent conduct.
- Laws permitting no fault divorce, and support of single
parents who could and should be part of a nuclear family
devastate children. Men and/or women who bring children
into the world and refuse to care for them should be severely
punished Laws have forced companies to employ more
women which often takes them away from their children and
introduces them to other men, often resulting in the breakup of
the family. The most basic 'right' of a child is to be
reared by his or her biological parents Men with a
sincere interest in being good husbands and fathers are denied
rights which enable them to be such.
- Many studies of foster care facilities have demonstrated that
far too many have little regard for the welfare of the children
involved.
- Most of the damage being done to our children and families has
taken place since the formation of a number of citizen supported
groups supposedly 'protecting' the rights of families and
children. (Think for a moment just what else can happen to
further ruin the traditional family. It has already sunk
about as low as it can get).
- The majority (if not all of them) are far more concerned about
having a good relationship with the 'party in power' than taking
a stand DEMANDING a return to the traditional values so
essential for the survival of the traditional family.
There are two simple steps that could be taken by the U.S.
Congress that would solve many of these problems: close down the
federal Dept. of Education, and strike down ALL LAWS dealing with
discrimination, harassment, hate crimes and racism. The
PRIMARY function of government is to protect those least able to
protect themselves, but our leaders could care less. Who is
more dependent on the concern of others than children?
Unfortunately, much of the content of this article is
'politically incorrect' and, therefore, not suitable for public
debate. We have come to the point in our country where most
anything and everything can be said or done EXCEPT the simple common
sense things so essential for a decent, civilized society.
The major political parties have evolved to the point that if it
doesn't generate campaign funds or result in attracting additional
votes, it is not worthy of consideration. It would appear that
most or all citizen-supported groups think similarly. Those
opposed to these views usually react to comments such as these by
calling them intolerant, anti-Semitic, or some other derogatory term
-- and God forbid that we leave ourselves vulnerable to such
accusations, regardless of what happens to our children.
And we call ourselves a Christian nation. We should be
ashamed of ourselves.
