Is It Too Late To Be Concerned?

Recently there have been several articles which have raised some serious concerns about the future of our country. Please take a minute to give these matters your consideration.

An Oct. 7 issue Of Business Week reported on the investment of corporate America in the old World (Europe). Starting in 1990, it was 210 Billions and increased steadily to 390 Billion, a total of 1.665 Trillion in 6 years. Investment in Asia was about 70 Billion in 1990, advancing steadily to about 115 Billion in 1995 for a total of 555 Billion for the same period. This total is 2.220 Trillion in 6 years.

The House Joint Economic Committee reported in Oct. 1993 the one tenth of our manufacturing jobs have been lost from Jan. ’89 to Oct. ’93. There is no reason to believe this has slowed. If this rate continued til now, it would mean 3.2 million manufacturing jobs have been lost.

Corporatedownsizing is reported to have cost about 1 million jobs in 10 years.

It has also been reported to have cost about 1 million jobs in 10 years.

The New York Times reported in Oct. ’96 that the Congress appropriated 23 Billion in risk insurance policies and loan guarantees to the Overseas Private Investment Corp.

We are told regularly that our exports create jobs. If they do, then IMPORTS cost us jobs. Rarely is this mentioned.

Since 1970, 30 Million immigrants have come to this country taking many of the jobs our people on welfare should be doing.

From what I read, there is little reason to believe these trends will reverse anytime soon. Many corporate executives report that they are NOT interested in the economic health or jobs in the US, they are interested only in the "global picture".

I doubt very much that any of the above mentioned reports are inaccurate, at least to the degree that they would alter the general picture.

The above "picture" could change very quickly if government had any sincere interest in doing so. My hope is that organizations in a position to influence this picture would first, verify it and then do something about it.

In a few short years, where will our taxpayers work? Getting us out of the UN, NAFTA and GATT would solve some of these and other problems.
