"If our children and grandchildren are to enjoy the freedoms and opportunities enjoyed by many of us, we must also dispel the myth that voting for 'second best' is in our best interest."

Wake Up America!

Few would question the statement that our country is well on its way to controlling the speech and actions of its citizens in ways that are contrary to the freedoms we once enjoyed. We are called radical, extreme and many other things when we dare to discuss certain subjects and we are accused of discrimination, harassment, hate crimes and many other acts when we do something that displeases someone else.

If we promote the person best qualified to do the job that needs to be done, we can be accused of discrimination by not giving the job to a minority person. When a person takes the initiative to establish a relationship with a person of the opposite sex, they can be accused of harassment. Even our children can be subjected to sensitivity training when they do or say things that they must do or say to learn how to get along in society. When we do or say things that someone of a different race might not agree with, we can be accused of racism. Why do we tolerate such intrusions into these private matters?

Labels that were once considered a badge of honor have been given negative connotations. Why has the term RELIGIOUS RIGHT become a term that is to be avoided? This term has been used to discredit anyone and almost everyone who has spoken out against issues that are adversely affecting our society. This term should be considered a BADGE OF HONOR and IF OUR RIGHTS are to be restored, the masses MUST be reminded that most of our founding fathers would be labeled as part of the religious right. These are the people who respect the rights of others and believe in personal accountability.

These are the attributes that make a country great and are essential for a civilized society.

The term RELIGIOUS RIGHT is usually associated with moral and social issues but even secular issues have been targeted as being politically incorrect. The current effort to label a very legitimate and effective means of controlling crime as racial illustrates how far some are willing to go to distort the thinking of the masses.

Profiling is a label given to the study of the type person who commits a given type crime. The study in no way is an attempt to target a specific segment of society unless that group is the one most apt to commit certain crimes. If such a study determines that a minority group is responsible for more than a proportional share of perpetrators, there are those who would label such a study as racial. There are those who would discourage law enforcement people from using this mechanism to protect law abiding citizens.

The terms harassment, discrimination, hate crimes and others are, many times, used to prevent a person from making decisions and/or doing things he or she has every right to do.

Such is an effort to judge a decision or effort as adversely affecting the rights of others, when in fact, it is an effort to deny a citizen a legitimate right. This is nothing less than judging the motives of another person.

There is no way one person can evaluate the motives of another and when government can use its influence to penalize citizens for acts taken within their basic rights, we are fast approaching anarchy. These efforts have been so gradual and labeled as protecting us that they have been scarcely noticed. Many have come to expect government to grant us special favors as long as the cost is borne by others.

Another subject which is scarcely addressed is the many contradictory and vain efforts of government. Much time has been spent recently debating gun control with gun registration getting special attention.

We are told that this is necessary to keep guns out of the hands of criminals when in fact a 1968 Supreme Court decision Haynes vs, US (390 US 85) determined that gun registration by criminals would be considered self incriminating and therefore they are not required to comply.

There are many examples of government efforts to limit something that it subsidizes. Is it any wonder government is expensive when it perpetuates both sides of an issue?

The very foundation of our country is the right of citizens to vote. But we often hear reports that there are rampant violations of laws governing the voting process. It would appear that there is very little effort expended to prosecute those violating these laws, and consequently, distorting the results of elections.

If our children and grandchildren are to enjoy the freedoms and opportunities enjoyed by many of us, we must also dispel the myth that voting for "second best" is in our best interest. When we vote for someone other that the one we feel most qualified, that is a wasted vote.

If enough of us aggressively address these issues, we can get our country back on track. YOU can make a difference. Challenge your representatives in government to justify their toleration of these infringements on our basic freedoms.
