“Is there anything left for our government to ruin?” |
What Else
Could Possibly Go Wrong... Please take a few minutes to consider what has happened to our country just since WWII. Nothing here is deep or profound, just simple observations which anyone can see if they are willing to take a few moments to reflect on life in our country today. While these comments may not apply to all situations, they do reflect the general trends today. Politics The two major parties have morphed into one, neither interested in holding the other accountable and virtually isolating any and all opposition, and thereby virtually destroying the two party system. With but few exceptions, our legislators' TOP priority is getting re-elected; they bend and break the rules governing the legislative process, trade votes, bribe each other to get support, refuse to effectively oversee the agencies they establish, and pander to the lobbyists at the expense of the citizens. They even give tax breaks to companies to move factories overseas. Government Whether elected, appointed or employed, government people are rarely held accountable for misdeeds, even including criminal acts. Thousands use government issued credit cards for personal use and officials pass out grants and contracts worth billions without proper oversight. Financial records of major government agencies are in such disarray and therefore UNauditable, making it next to impossible to track fraud and corruption. Not one significant government agency is operating in the best long term interest of our country. We require our officials to take an OATH OF OFFICE, but when has ANYONE been prosecuted for violating that oath, which they do routinely? Health Care Prior to federal involvement, people would go to a doctor, get treated, and pay a few dollars. Today, doctors must maintain a staff to "process paperwork," resulting in over half of ALL DOLLARS spent on health care going to administration. Health insurance for a family of four is over $9,000. With an average family income of $35,000, who can afford it? Social Security Established to provide some income for retirees, it has been expanded to include benefits for all sorts of groups related to retirement. Taxes were increased in the early '80s to establish a "trust fund" to guarantee benefits for baby boomers. At this moment, there are no funds in the trust fund and even the younger generation is of the opinion that there will be NO benefits for them. Yet we continue to talk reform when there is little reason to believe that the program can survive under ANY conditions. Foreign Policy We are alienating the masses in many countries by our imperialistic policies and sending huge sums of money to foreign leaders, much of which ends up in the private bank accounts of the leaders with little interest in seeing that the monies are used for their stated purposes. The Media No longer interested in ACCURATELY reporting on the issues of the day, the media have become lapdogs for "the establishment," even using government issued propaganda as news items. Schools Once recognized as effectively teaching children the basics required to succeed in life, our schools have become indoctrination centers promoting devious lifestyles and all kinds of social engineering, virtually ignoring reading, writing, and math. Teachers are not permitted to maintain discipline in the classroom, thereby denying them the controls they need to effectively teach. All this is due to demands placed on the system by the Feds. Families Government programs have virtually destroyed the family culture. All kinds of government programs justified as in the best interests of our children are actually at the expense of our children. Parents can be punished for disciplining children, children can be taken from parents by overzealous social workers, no-fault divorce often destroys families for no good reason, and children are permitted to be exposed to ANYTHING except good moral values. Freedoms Law-abiding citizens can be punished for just talking about deviant lifestyles. Critical facets of serious problems are considered "politically incorrect" and therefore not accepted in public debate. Practically EVERYTHING we do is regulated beyond belief. Practically every identifiable group has been granted special privileges taken from the masses. Even to go from point A to point B, we must wear a seat belt, go through a metal detector, or be frisked or otherwise harassed. Financial Community Supposedly overseen by the SEC (to protect the small investor), it has become the group designing means for the business community to gouge the public for personal and corporate gain. Labor Organizations These cooperate with the elites to promote corporate interests. (Did they EVER fight to prevent the movement of factories offshore?) Selective Law Enforcement U.S. food producers are subjected to close scrutiny, but foodstuffs of all kinds come from other countries and bypass the controls imposed on native suppliers. Corporate fraud is tolerated, immigration is uncontrolled and our legislators exempt themselves from laws others must obey. And we call ourselves a CHRISTIAN NATION GOVERNED BY THE RULE OF LAW. What a joke! IS THERE ANYTHING LEFT FOR OUR GOVERNMENT TO RUIN?
